Club legend Thierry Henry says Arsenal’s season should be archived as a disappointment after the Gunners failed to qualify for next season’s Champions League.

Wenger said earlier this year that he would make an announcement about his future before the end of the season, but he has repeatedly ducked opportunities to reveal his intentions. We want to keep winning.

“It feels good. We deserve this position. It was a pressurised situation but they managed to come through in the end (against Middlesbrough)”, he said in Sydney.

“I am not saying we are already in but I am already looking forward to it”. “We have to see”, the German told reporters. We fly to Australia (on Monday evening), we have a game, then fly back and the holiday starts for all of us.

However, Henderson, who watched on from the stands, felt the Reds’ all-round team display was laudable in such pressure circumstances.

On the stroke of half-time Wijnaldum made all the difference, rifling past helpless Brad Guzan into the roof of the net before Coutinho scored a wonderful free-kick five minutes after the restart.

Champions League qualification represents roughly £50 million to Arsenal, and their absence among Europe’s elite next season could be damning for Wenger. “There’s nothing better maybe in the world”.

Wenger’s contract at the Emirates Stadium expires this summer but the 67-year-old, who has delivered three Premier Leagues and six FA Cups to North London, has remained defiant throughout despite facing protests from supporters over his future.

“I said in the week that we’re going to attract big players this summer, especially with having Jürgen Klopp as our manager”.

We would have liked to win something as well, but you have got to take one step at a time“, he continued.

He said: “It is not that I will sit together with Michael Edwards (Liverpool’s sporting director) tomorrow and think about what we need”.

At least that’s what Paul Merson has claimed as he considers what the Red Devils require in order to compete with champions Chelsea next season.

“The whole team were brilliant from start to finish”.

FSG may be ready to show Jürgen Klopp the money, but any players that are signed have to be ready to get their James Milner on and do the business.
